Overview
Bitstamp is a long-established cryptocurrency exchange. This guide explains how to access your account safely: from the official Bitstamp website or mobile app, through enabling two-factor authentication (2FA), to recovering access if you’re locked out.
How to sign in to Bitstamp
- Open the official Bitstamp site: bitstamp.net.
- Click “Log in” (top-right of the homepage) or open the Bitstamp mobile app and tap “Sign in”.
- Enter your registered email and password, then complete the CAPTCHA if prompted.
- If you have 2FA enabled, enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy) or confirm via SMS if you configured SMS 2FA (less recommended).
- After successful verification you’ll land on your dashboard where you can view balances, trade, deposit, and withdraw.

Two-factor authentication (2FA)
2FA drastically improves security. Bitstamp supports authenticator apps and SMS-based codes. Use an authenticator app for stronger protection.
- Enable 2FA from Security > Two-Factor Authentication in your account settings.
- Save backup/recovery codes in a secure place — they'll be needed if you lose your phone.
- Consider a hardware security key if you require extra protection.
Troubleshooting common login problems
If you can’t log in, try these steps:
- Double-check the URL to ensure you are visiting the official site (https://www.bitstamp.net).
- Reset your password by clicking Forgot password? on the login page — follow the email link to create a new password.
- If your 2FA code is not accepted, ensure your device clock is accurate (use automatic network time).
- Clear browser cache/cookies or try a different browser or the mobile app.
- If you suspect an account compromise, contact Bitstamp Support immediately from the official help center. Never share passwords or 2FA codes over email or chat.
Account recovery & locked accounts
For account recovery (lost password or 2FA device):
- Use the “Forgot password” flow to reset your password via email.
- If you lost access to your 2FA app, use your saved backup codes. If you didn’t save codes, follow Bitstamp’s account recovery process — it may require identity verification (ID document, selfie, and account activity proof).
- Expect additional verification steps for security — this process protects your funds and identity.
Security best practices
- Always access Bitstamp from a private, secure network — avoid public Wi-Fi for financial activity.
- Use unique, strong passwords and a reputable password manager.
- Enable 2FA and store recovery codes offline (not in email).
- Keep your devices and browser up-to-date, and watch for phishing emails claiming to be Bitstamp — check senders and links carefully.
